More Than Just a Beauty Brand
Lipstick Famous has always been a brand that’s all about making our customers look and feel amazing. Our philosophy is that wearing just the right shade of lipstick has the power to transform your look, as well as your inner confidence
However, beyond being a cosmetics brand, we’re on a mission to make a bigger impact by bringing more inclusivity and representation to the beauty space. Lipstick Famous is a Black-owned brand, founded by one woman, with an entrepreneurial spirit and a desire to create products that reflect her community.
If you’ve never paused to consider why inclusivity matters so much, the statistics speak for themselves. According to recent research conducted by the McKinsey Institute for Black Economic Mobility, both Black consumers and brands continue to be underrepresented in the beauty industry.
From a numbers standpoint, despite the market for beauty products being a $500 billion industry, Black brands make up only a staggering 2.5 percent of that revenue. Perhaps this has something to do with the fact that although an increasing number of Black beauty brands have launched in recent years, only about 4-7 percent of brands on the shelves of specialty beauty stores, grocers, and department stores are Black-owned.
Further, the McKinsey report reiterates what most consumers of color have been experiencing and expressing for decades, which is a baseline deficit of representation encompassing everything from a lack of inclusivity in shade ranges, to limited visibility as many popular brands continue to feature predominantly non-black models in advertising campaigns.
Our Origin Story: How Lipstick Famous was born
For our founder, the results of these studies were hardly surprising. They reflected her everyday experience of shopping at popular beauty stores like Sephora and Ulta, and finding only a very small percentage of Black-owned brands and products to choose from.
As someone who grew up passionate about makeup and specifically lipstick, she was inspired to move from the role of consumer to producer, and begin leveraging her expertise to create a more inclusive line of cosmetics. In May of 2022, she brought her vision to life, and launched her own Chicago-based brand.

At Lipstick Famous, you’ll find a range of shades made for everyone. The intention behind our brand is to give back to our communities by offering the best possible quality products on the market. They’re designed to be luxuriously hydrating and moisturizing matte formulas, which feature their own unique built-in-primer effect, and deliver a flawless finish. Additionally, unlike a typical private label brand, our lipsticks were designed by our founder, alongside a cosmetic chemist and every shade has a story. We even offer supportive products such as balms and scrubs, in order to create the ultimate lip care experience.
